The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth is one of the largest independent hospitals in the country, providing a full range of medical and surgical services.  Modern and well-equipped, it has four major operating theatres and one of the most advanced imaging departments in Europe. A recent Healthcare Commission inspection report commends the hospital's cleanliness and the quality of its staff.  It also indicates that patients reported a high level of satisfaction with their care and treatment. The hospital offers centres of excellence in many clinical specialities: the dialysis unit and cancer unit are among the best in the UK, the surgical unit for breast cancer is approved by BUPA, and a specialist clinic for sports injuries attracts leading sports men and women from around the world.  There are three critical care beds and always at least 34 members of staff on site with Advanced Life Support Training - a high level of cover.  Profits generated by the hospital are used to fund the on-site St John's Hospice, which provides care free of charge to people suffering from long term illnesses.
