Address & description

Welcome to the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust.
We provide comprehensive neurological, neurosurgical and pain management services to people across Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
We also accept referrals for patients from other parts of the British Isles.
The Walton Centre is based in Liverpool but we provide 14 neurology and three neurosurgery satellite clinics across the region, giving patients access to services in their own communities.
As a specialist Foundation Trust we provide care for people suffering from injury, illness or pain associated with the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. The range of conditions we treat includes epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, brain and spinal tumours, Parkinson's Disease, stroke, cancer, spinal pain and brain injuries.
Patient care is at the heart of everything we do. We received "excellent" ratings for Privacy & Dignity and Food in the 2009 PEAT (Patient Environment Action Team) assessment and as well as "good" for environment.
All our wards offer single sex accomodation. The only exception is our Critical Care Unit, where decisions are made based on clinical need.
Our policy screening all elective patients for MRSA before admission has allowed us to maintain consistently low rates of infection.
The quality of our services was rated as "excellent" by the Health Care Commission in October 2008 (now the Care Quality Commission) and we were named as one of the UK's top 40 hospitals in April 2009 due to the quality of services we offer.
On August 1 2009, we became an NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this date, we were know as the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Trust.

N/A
This standard reflects the combined performance of the ambulance service, general practitioners (GPs) and hospitals and is the most relevant overall indicator of care of heart attack patients. It encourages collaborative working across all relevant NHS organisations, particularly between ambulance services and hospitals to reduce delays to thrombolytic treatment. The call for professional help will usually be direct to the ambulance service but may be to a GP or NHS Direct. The Department of Health has set NHS organisations in England the target of 68% of patients receiving thrombolytic treatment within 60 minutes of calling for professional help.
