Professional profile
Mr Daneshfar has been an NHS consultant since March 2000 (at UHL since Oct 2002); from 2003-2006 in additional role of Clinical Director for the Orthopaedic Department of UHL.
Through leading on the re-organisation of the orthopaedic wards (separation of elective from trauma) the orthopaedic department has been able to increase it's efficiency, and has achieved significant reduction in surgical site infections since 2006.
Mr Daneshfar has been working with the community health and one of the leading local GP to develop the Community Hip Team. This improved the quality of care in the community (positive patient feedback), and facilitated early discharges of in- and outpatients.
Mr Daneshfar is currently the only surgeon at UHL who offers since 2003 hip re-surfacing arthroplasty ("Birmingham Hip") as a more bone-preserving alternative to THR for younger patients.
He has also pioneered "minimally invasive" hip surgery and introduced the multidisciplinary 'rapid recovery programme' for THR as innovations to University Hospital Lewisham (since January 2006). This has reduced the length of hospital stay for his patients from an already low average of 7 days by half, in some cases enabling hospital discharge the next day after surgery.
Mr Daneshfar has developed expertise in 'computer navigated' Total Knee Replacement (TKR), a technique that can be of particular benefit for younger or complexly deformed degenerative knees.
