Professional profile
I qualified from Addenbrooke's School of Clinical Medicine, Cambridge University, in 1992. Following House Officer posts in East Anglia and Senior House Officer posts in Leeds, I was appointed as a Research Fellow in Cardiology at South Cleveland Hospital, Middlesbrough 1996-8. I completed Specialist Registrar Cardiology training in the Northern Deanery, following which I was appointed to the post of Consultant Cardiologist with particular expertise in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) in May 2003. I am fully trained and experienced in all aspects of coronary angiography and PCI and am a high volume operator (approx 270 PCIs per year). I treat complex disease, including left main stem disease, patients with previous coronary artery bypass surgery and chronic total occlusions. I perform the majority of coronary interventions from the radial artery. I participate in a 24hr on call rota for the emergency interventional management of acute myocardial infarction. I am trained in all aspects of adult general cardiology and hold a weekly adult general cardiology clinic. I run the hypertension service with 2 of my consultant colleagues. I am experienced in management and held the post of Clinical Director of Cardiology from April 2006 to March 2012. I have a keen interest in education and training and hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education awarded by Newcastle University in 2012.
Hospital and Trust activities
Clinical Director cardiology April 2006 - March 2012. Educational supervisor for a number of junior doctors. I sit on the Trust clinical standards group.
Other contributions to the NHS
I am the British Cardiovascular Society regional specialty advisor for service.
