- Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world's leading cause of death, with around 18 million people dying from the disease in 2005. CVD accounts for nearly a third of all deaths globally (1)
- UK Statistics show that between 2006 to 2007 there were 69,971 cases of unstable angina, resulting in 42,526 emergency admissions (2)
- Most cases of unstable angina in 2007 to 2008 (40,607) were recorded in male patients and in people aged 60 years and over (3)
- UK studies estimate that between six and 16 per cent of men and three and 10 per cent of women aged between 65 and 74 years have had angina symptoms (4 - 6) *
- Around one per cent of the UK population visit their GP because of angina symptoms (5) *
- Approximately 23,000 people with new symptoms of angina visit their GP each year in the UK (6) *
