Neonatology

Neonatology is the treatment and study of diseases of the newborn child (less than one month old). Neonatology is a hospital-based specialty performed in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Sick newborns may need special medical care especially if they are born premature, have low birth weights, suffer from growth retardation in the womb, exhibit birth defects or experience problems during birth (low oxygen).
