Insulin

Insulin injections help control your blood glucose (blood sugar) levels if you have Type 1 diabetes. Not all people with Type 2 diabetes need to take it. You may need the hormone insulin if your blood glucose is not satisfactorily controlled by tablets. How much insulin each person needs varies and some people will need to take insulin alongside tablets, such as metformin or a sulphonylurea. Side-effects of taking insulin by injection include weight gain, but this can be controlled by using insulin with metformin. Hypoglycaemia is another side-effect.
