MDT (multidisciplinary team) coordinator

Multidisciplinary teams consist of a variety of medical specialists and allied medical staff. MDT meetings are often arranged to plan aspects of patient treatment. For example a patient with bowel cancer may be discussed by a team of experts so that the best approach to treatment can be planned. Treatment may then involve surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The MDT coordinator is responsible for generating a list of relevant patient names for the MDT meetings and distributing this to the entire team by liaising with the clinical and administrative teams across departments. The list may be divided into sections. For example pre-treatment discussion (including patients to be considered for preoperative radiotherapy/chemotherapy); post-treatment discussion; disease progression/post treatment reviews; and complex patients.
