Anaesthetist

Anaesthetists are doctors with specialist training in anaesthesia, pain management, intensive care and emergency care (resuscitation). They are responsible for patient wellbeing and safety throughout surgery, agreeing a plan with the patient for the anaesthetic, administering the anaesthetic, planning pain control with the patient, managing any transfusions and patient care in the intensive care unit (if needed). Anaesthetists are also responsible for inserting and managing epidurals on the labour ward.
