Water birth

A water birth involves the woman labouring and delivering her baby in a birthing pool. This is preferred by some women as they often require less pain relief during labour and may be less likely to need assistance for the delivery. Water births are generally safe for mothers and babies but there are certain circumstances in which a water birth is not possible. E.g.: if monitoring of the baby needs to be carried out or if the mother has a fever or high blood pressure.
