TENS machine
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator (TENS) machines deliver small electrical pulses to the body through electrodes placed on the skin. TENS machines are thought to affect the way pain signals are sent to the brain. They may be used to treat labour pain or for chronic back pain. Research into the efficacy of TENS machines have shown conflicting results as to how much pain relief they give. Some scientists conclude that they are not effective, while others say they seem to help some people. Further research is needed to clarify their role and effect.
