Ring-fenced elective ward

A ring-fenced elective ward is where all patients have chosen to undergo an operation on the recommendation of their consultant (not an emergency admission) and have also all undergone decolonisation procedures to kill any bacteria on their bodies. Ring-fenced wards are reserved for patients having similar elective operations, so no other emergency patients can enter the ward.
