Pressure ulcers (bed sores)
Pressure ulcers (also known as bed sores) usually occur on areas of the body that have little body fat to cover them, such as the hips, heels, shoulder blades and the small of the back. They occur when a person lies in one position for a long period of time, for example when a person has been ill or injured. They are more common in the elderly and in people with thin, easily damaged skin.
