Spire Hospital Leicester is a large private hospital, with 76 beds. It has four major operating theatres in all. Two of these have laminar flow - this is a special clean air system, which reduces the risk of infection during operations. It is particularly useful for orthopaedic procedures, specifically joint replacement. The hospital offers surgical services for breast and bowel cancer, and both units are BUPA-approved. Chemotherapy services and palliative care is also available, but the hospital does not offer radiotherapy. Heart bypass surgery is performed at the hospital, as is exercise ECG and coronary angiography. The hospital does not perform surgery on anyone under 18 years of age. There is always at least one member of staff on site with Paediatric Advanced Life Support training.
