Nuffield Hospital Leeds is a large private hospital - it has 88 beds and seven operating theatres - and offers a range of surgical, medical and diagnostic services to the local population. The hospital is able to perform heart bypass surgery, and also offers exercise ECG, coronary angiography, cardiac catheterisation and cardiac rehabilitation. There are eight critical care beds, and there are always at least two members of staff on site with Advanced Life Support training. This means help can easily be sought in the event of an emergency. The hospital does not perform surgery on children under three years of age, but is able to operate on youngsters between the ages of three and 12. Surgery is available to treat both breast and bowel cancer, and the bowel cancer unit has BUPA-approval. Chemotherapy is also available to treat the disease, and palliative care available for patients whose illness is terminal.
