The 48 bed Essex Nuffield Hospital is based in Brentwood, and offers a range of private medical services. There are two critical care beds, and always at least one member of staff on site with Advanced Life Support training. This means there is cover in the event of an emergency. The hospital has four major operating theatres - two of which are equipped with laminar flow. This is a special clean air system which reduces the risk of infection during operations. It is particularly useful for orthopaedic procedures and, more specifically, joint replacement surgery. The Essex Nuffield offers surgical services for both breast and bowel cancer, and both units are BUPA-approved. Chemotherapy is also available for the treatment of the condition, and palliative care for patients whose illness is terminal. Physiotherapy services are available at the hospital, and special treatment for sports injury offered. There is a gymnasium on site to aid treatment.
