BMI The Priory Hospital in Edgbaston is a very large private hospital - with 120 beds, one of the largest in the country. It performs a wide range of medical, diagnostic and surgical procedures, and performs more complex surgery than other, smaller, private hospitals. There are six critical care beds at the hospital, and always at least three members of staff on site with Advanced Life Support training. This level of cover reflects the more complex procedures the hospital carries out. Heart bypass surgery is available at the hospital, and forms part of cardiac services including cardiac catheterisation, coronary angioplasty and coronary angioplasty. The hospital has six operating theatres - five are major, one is minor. Of the major theatres, three are equipped with laminar flow. This is a special clean air system which reduces the risk of infection during operations.

Surgical services for breast and bowel cancer are available, and both units have BUPA accreditation. Chemotherapy is also available for the treatment of the disease. Palliative care is available for patients whose illness is terminal. Although the hospital does not operate on children under three years of age, it can operate on children from three to twelve years of age. There are always at least two members of staff on site with Paediatric Advanced Life Support training.
