BMI Shirley Oaks Hospital

BMI Shirley Oaks Hospital has 50 beds including two critical care beds and four operating theatres. Of the three major theatres one is fitted with a special clean air system, laminar flow, which helps decrease the risk of infection during surgery, especially important in orthopaedic procedures. There is a range of diagnostic imaging services. Mammography, ultrasound and x-ray are all available. Surgery is available for both breast cancer and bowel cancer and both units are BUPA-approved. Chemotherapy is also available. A range of physiotherapy services are provided, with a gymnasium on site and specialist sports injury treatment. Outpatient paediatric services are available. Complementary medicines and therapies are also available - acupuncture, aromatherapy and hypnotherapy are all on offer. There is also an open MRI scanner. This has no enclosed tunnel and is the most patient friendly system available. There are always at least two members of staff on duty with Advanced Life Support Training.
