Address & description

Standing in a pleasant stretch of open countryside near Wigan at the very heart of the North West Region, Wrightington Hospital is readily accessible from Junction 27 of the M6.
Wrightington Hospital's status as a Centre of Excellence in the treatment of musculo-skeletal disease has its origins in the seminal work of Professor Sir John Charnley, who pioneered hip-replacement operations at Wrightington in the early 1960s. But while drawing strength from the past, Wrightington looks to the future, determined to sustain its reputation as a hospital at the leading edge of both practice and research.
Over the last 50 years Wrightington has developed and provided an excellent service at local, national and international level. Some of the country's leading orthopaedic clinical teams continue to deliver the best care available.
Wrightington's reputation for excellence attracts highly talented Consultants who specialise in joint surgery, and in the medical disciplines of rheumatology and rehabilitation. This multi-disciplinary approach produces important synergies, particularly in the field of inflammatory arthritis.
Each year more than 1,000 hip and knee procedures are carried out at the hospital. Over the last seven years, Wrightington has maintained a Zero MRSA infections rating, as recorded by the Department of Health.
