The Western Infirmary and Gartnavel General Hospital have 1,200 beds and function as one of the major teaching hospitals for the University of Glasgow including University Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Biochemistry, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Immunology and the Renal Transplant Service.
The wards are fully supported by ward reception staff and by a daily phlebotomy service. The intensive care unit has a computerised critical care charting systems for all patient records and data, which helps to maintain efficiency within the hospital.
