We are one of the best performers nationally on infection prevention and control and have not had a single case of MRSA bacteraemia since April 2009 (correct August 2011). Just as importantly, we place a high value on ensuring patients are treated with kindness and respect throughout their care.
Trafford General Hospital is our main hospital site, located in west Manchester with easy access from the M60 motorway. It is the only acute hospital in England to provide free parking for all patients and visitors. Trafford General was also the birthplace of the NHS in 1948 and more than 60 years later it continues to provide high-quality healthcare services in safe, clean surroundings.
The hospital has around 230 inpatient beds, as well as an Accident & Emergency department, critical care unit and outpatient facilities. Wards, clinic areas, theatres and waiting rooms have been significantly upgraded in the past two years to ensure patients are cared for in clean, comfortable surroundings that respect their privacy and dignity. As a result, we were rated triple Excellent for the patient Environment, Food and Privacy & Dignity in the national 2011 PEAT inspection.
We provide an extensive range of district general hospital services (see list below) and have full scanning facilities, including CT and MR scanners. Patients can also access our services at Altrincham General and Stretford Memorial Hospitals and in community settings.
Particular specialties include: colorectal surgery; laparoscopic gynaecology, gall bladder removal and hernia surgery; orthopaedic surgery (resurfacing and ligament work as well as joint replacement); stroke services; diabetes care; and ENT.
Our 1,600 staff work hard to protect our reputation for high-quality care, infection control and convenient patient access to our health services, with some of the shortest waiting times for treatment in the Manchester area. In a national survey of inpatient opinion, carried out by the Care Quality Commission, our patients said they were very satisfied with the respect for privacy and dignity, hospital cleanliness and availability of single-sex accommodation that they experienced during their stay. Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust was named Medium-Sized Hospital Trust of the Year in the Dr Foster Hospital Guide 2009, thanks to our record on patient safety and good patient care. We are now working closely with other healthcare providers in Trafford to develop integrated care services and we hope to become part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust from April 2012.
