Address & description

With a worldwide reputation for innovation and research, The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, provides the highest quality hospital care to patients locally, regionally and nationally. Our surrounding geographical area includes Shropshire, Wales, Cheshire and the Midlands.
Oswestry’s orthopaedic hospital mainly treats disorders of the bones, joints and muscles. Surgical areas comprise hip and knee replacement, foot, ankle and lower limb surgery, hand, shoulder and upper limb surgery (including hand emergencies), spinal disorders and sports injury surgery. We host the regional centre for spinal injuries (at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries) and the Regional Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service. Additionally we treat people with metabolic disorders (including osteoporosis) and those with inflammatory arthritis. We have a centre for children and provide specialist surgery/treatment for children and adolescents with orthopaedic or disorders affecting muscular development. The Trust also provides services for private patients within the Ludlow Unit. The hospital has consistently low infection rates and provides very specialist services.
Due to its location, the hospital treats a significant number of patients from Wales, where there are currently longer specified waiting times. The effect of the longer Welsh Assembly Government waiting times is that overall the Trust's waiting times appear longer for all patients, when averaged across both English and Welsh patients, as they are for the purposes of this Guide.

This standard reflects the combined performance of the ambulance service, general practitioners (GPs) and hospitals and is the most relevant overall indicator of care of heart attack patients. It encourages collaborative working across all relevant NHS organisations, particularly between ambulance services and hospitals to reduce delays to thrombolytic treatment. The call for professional help will usually be direct to the ambulance service but may be to a GP or NHS Direct. The Department of Health has set NHS organisations in England the target of 68% of patients receiving thrombolytic treatment within 60 minutes of calling for professional help.
