Address & description

Formed in 1993 as an NHS Trust, Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides health care services from two sites. The total site covers some 49 acres, with 28 acres on the main site and 21 acres on the Outwoods site.
The main site includes 420 inpatient beds as well as a dedicated endoscopy suite; a modern breast care unit; and a newly established stroke facility. The Geoffrey Hodges Wing on our Outwoods site provides a range of services, including both intermediate care and rehabilitation beds.
Our Trust has a number of partnership agreements and contracts with other healthcare providers. This enables the Trust to act as a portal to either tertiary or more specialist services that are not traditionally provided at a district general hospital.
In addition to formal contractual relationships, our Trust has well established links with clinical networks to enable best practice to be shared and seamless transfer of patients to tertiary centres. This also ensures that our clinicians and other key staff are kept up to date with new research and developments, which in turn benefits the health community. Networks are also effective in sharing capacity and agreeing future service delivery across the environment they serve.
We provide a wide range of general hospital services and acts as entry point to specialist tertiary centres and key clinical networks. Our main clinical services are organised and managed by two clinical directorates, each of which is led by a general manager and clinical director and supported by a dedicated team of senior managers.
The general managers and clinical directors meet with our executive management team on a fortnightly basis in order to review performance, approve operational policies and progress development of services.
In addition to services provided on our main site, our Trust provides a range of consultant outreach services in local community settings. Predominantly for the South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) community hospitals, our Trust provides consultants for specialties including dermatology, obstetrics, gynaecology, ENT, ophthalmology, general surgery and urology. We also outreach consultants to Ashby Hospital and Swadlincote Health Centre.
