Neath Port Talbot Hospital has 270 beds and provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and day case services for the people of Neath and Port Talbot. The hospital was officiallyy HRH the Prince of Wales on 3rd February 2003.
Facilities include:
- Medical Admissions
- Facility the hospital accepts all medical emergencies arising in the Neath Port Talbot area utilising 121 beds with a supporting High Dependency/Coronary Care Unit
- Elective Surgery
- in-patient and day case surgery is provided for all but the most complex cases in General Surgery/Urology, Orthopaedics (to include joint replacements) and Gynaecology. This utilises 56 beds, 4 operating theatres and a Day Surgery Unit where a high percentage of day case work is performed
- Endoscopy Department
- a state-of-the-art Endoscopy Department is provided separate from the Day Surgery Unit in line with current practice
- 24 Hour Local Accident Service
- accepting 999 cases in General Medicine and providing a trauma service to treat minor injuries ie, those patients who do not require hospital admission for surgery or manipulation of fractures
- Outpatient Services
- full range of general outpatient clinics with approximately 100,000 total attendances per annum
- Maternity Service
- a midwifery led Maternity Service
- Children's Services
- a children's assessment unit is available between the hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and provides a Day Observation Service for children with medical conditions
- Radiology Services
- the department allows access to virtually all diagnostic x-ray and radiology services
- Rehabilitation Services
- the full range of rehabilitation service, including a 22-bed pre-discharge ward and hydrotherapy is available with a supporting service to the Elderly Day Hospital and the Psychiatric Day Hospitals
- Mental Health
- the inclusion of in-patient mental health facilities is one of the most exciting features of the new hospital and allows for a comprehensive local mental health service to be available for the population of Neath Port Talbot within the County Borough for the first time. The unit includes 28-Adult Acute and 20 Elderly beds and associated Day Hospitals
- Palliative Care Unit
- the hospital includes the highly regarded Yr Rhosyn Unit, providing support and therapy to clients diagnosed with cancer
- Children's Centre
- Dr Hywel Francis MP opened the new £1.5m Neath Port Talbot Children's Centre on 8th December 2003. The new Centre provides a modern and inviting environment for children, together with their parents and carers, to attend clinics and other services. The Centre also provides a new base for the local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
