Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust was founded on 1st April 2005 under the Health and Social Care (Community Standards) Act 2003. Operating in its former guise as Liverpool Women's Hospital NHS Trust, the organisation had been created in 1995 when all services for women and babies in Liverpool came together under one roof in a state of the art building in the heart of Toxteth. In 2000 the Trust took over the Aintree Centre for Women's Health, which provides services to the women of north Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley and in so doing became the largest women's hospital in Europe.
Each year, the Trust now delivers almost 8,000 babies per year, carries out 11,500 gynaecological procedures and cares for 1,000 preterm infants on our Neonatal Unit.
Our clinical services have, in accordance with our mission, been created and developed in response to the specific needs of local women and their families. We manage our services though five directorates, each led by a Clinical Director who is a senior consultant and a Directorate Manager who reports directly to the Chief Executive. Directorate managers, clinical directors and the executive team sit on the Management Executive Board, which has overall responsibility for the operational management and leadership of the Trust and is accountable to the Board of Directors.
