Inverclyde Royal Hospital is a modern, 370-bed District General Hospital situated in Greenock, Inverclyde, approximately 30 minutes from Glasgow. It serves a population of around 125,000 in the urban and rural areas of Inverclyde, Largs, Bute and the Cowal Peninsula. Inverclyde has high areas of unemployment and a significant part of the population live in designated areas of priority treatment, generating high levels of demand for health care.
All major acute specialties are represented within the hospital, including general surgery, urology, orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, general medicine and Accident and Emergency. A range of services are provided on an outpatient and day case basis including ENT, gynaecology and paediatrics. Obstetric outpatient and day case service is provided within a community maternity unit.
The maternity unit has held a 'Baby Friendly Hospital' UK Award by UNICEF for its achievements in the promotion of Breast Feeding. There is a modern 90-bed Geriatric Assessment/Stroke Unit (included in bed complement mentioned above). The hospital also has excellent education facilities within their active Post Graduate Education Centre, which has a well stocked library and bank of computers with Internet access, as well as a 80-seat Lecture Theatre and four seminar rooms.
Visiting times in general are from 2.00pm to 3.00pm and 7.00pm to 8.00pm, with some exceptions due to ward procedures.
