Address & description

The Great Western Hospital is the main site for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It provides services to Swindon, Wiltshire, West Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire mainly from a site near junction 15 of the M4.
The Great Western Hospital is a medium-sized acute hospital providing a very high standard of modern accommodation with one third of the beds in single en-suite rooms. It provides general and acute surgery, critical care, coronary care, diagnostics, paediatric medicine and surgery, trauma and orthopaedics and midwifery and obstetric services.
The hospital performs significantly better than targets set for minimising rates of infection in hospitals. The Brunel NHS Treatment Centre adjoins GWH as does the Shalbourne Suite, a 20 bed private patient unit.

This standard reflects the combined performance of the ambulance service, general practitioners (GPs) and hospitals and is the most relevant overall indicator of care of heart attack patients.
