Eastbourne District General Hospital occupies a prominent position on one of the main thoroughfares into Eastbourne and has commanding views of the town and its rural locality. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of acute surgery, medicine and diagnostics for all ages. During 2011 a refurbishment scheme has been underway to upgrade facilities at the Emergency Department at the hospital and improve the experience of patients especially with regards to privacy and dignity. The refurbishment includes new treatment cubicles, a new dedicated children's waiting area and treatment room, refurbished reception area, 10 bed clinical decisions unit and electric doors at the entrance to the department. It is anticipated this work will be completed by autumn 2011.

The hospital is run by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust which provides NHS hospital and community services throughout East Sussex. This enables the Trust to provide an integrated service to patients from prevention and public health through to care and treatment in the patient's own home, hospital and various schools, health centres and clinics throughout the county.
