Bronglais General Hospital is located in Aberystwyth with approximately 200 inpatient beds it is the only provider of acute hospital care within rural Mid Wales, including west and north Powys and south Gwynedd. The hospitals functions combine the roles of a District General Hospital and a Local General Hospital in line with standard definitions. Core functions are built around the requirement to provide comprehensive emergency access to healthcare. This dictates the requirement for A&E, major trauma and emergency medical and surgical services supported by the critical care and diagnosis services. Integral to the local access requirements is the provision of Obstetric / Maternity Services and Paediatric Services.
