Address & description

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the biggest and busiest acute NHS trusts in the North West, with income of £273 million in 2009/10 and a workforce of almost 6,000 staff. The Trust provides acute healthcare services to around 400,000 people across the Wirral peninsula, Ellesmere Port and Neston, from two main hospital sites - Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital.
Arrowe Park Hospital in Upton offers a full range of emergency and acute services for adults and children, including maternity services. Clatterbridge Hospital in Bebington is home to most of the Trust's planned surgical services and some specialist rehabilitation services. The Trust also provides x-ray services from two community hospitals - Victoria Central Hospital in Wallasey and St Catherine's Hospital in Birkenhead.
The Trust performs well. In the 2008/09 Healthcare Commission Annual Health Check it scored 'Excellent' for use of resources and 'Good' for quality of services. In May 2009 the Trust was named, for the third year running, among the UK's top performing hospitals in the annual independent survey carried out by CHKS. This assessed a number of key indicators including MRSA cases, mortality rates and waiting times.
In the latest Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) inspections the Trust recieved ratings of 'Excellent' for food and 'Good' for our patient environment.
The Trust became an NHS Foundation Trust on 1st July 2007.
