Western Eye Hospital, London: The Western Eye hospital, based in Edgware Road, is a dedicated facility for ophthalmology.
Western General Hospital, Edinburgh: The Western General Hospital has a bed complement of 617 acute beds. Specialist services provided include neurosciences, oncology, breast and colonic surgery, and urology. The hospital developed the UK's first neuro-oncology centre for people with conditions, such as brain tumours. The number of patients treated has increased substantially since staff redesigned the service, achieving reduced waiting times and an improved service through measures such as the use of telephone consultations.
Western Infirmary, Glasgow: The Western Infirmary and Gartnavel General Hospital have 1,200 beds and function as one of the major teaching hospitals for the University of Glasgow including University Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Biochemistry, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Immunology and the Renal Transplant Service.
