- Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, as a District General Hospital, serves the region of Dumfries and Galloway in South-West Scotland and includes the new Macmillan Oncology Centre and associated Cancer Information Centre. The board developed a state-of-the-art Central Sterile Services Department, which was the first of its kind in Scotland. As part of its continuing development of enhanced services for patients, the board has replaced and updated its conventional diagnostic mammography unit at the hospital with a full field digital mammography system. The technology allows for images to be created for review within 30 seconds reducing clinic time and the number of recall visits required for patients, as well as giving sharper images capable of being transmitted by tele-medicine to specialist centres.
