Professional profile

My work as a consultant is 60% elective upper limb surgery with a preponderence of reconstructive work following trauma, all complex upper limb fractures are of interest, particularly those of the distal radius and scaphoid. I also have a specific interest in problems with the joint at the base of the thumb and arthroscopic surgery.
I run the nerve injury service at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt orthopaedic hospital with my colleage Mr David Ford treating brachial plexus and other major nerve problems.
I provide an upper limb service for the West Midlands Spinal Injuries Unit and hold a monthly clinic for reconstuctive surgery for quadriplegic patient.
Teaching is a major part of my job, primarily orthopaedic registrars but also junior trainees at Shrewsbury. We run regular courses on anatomy, basic sciences, clinical examination techniques, viva techniques at RJAH and I am responsible for the core currculum teaching for registars on a monthly basis.
