Professional profile
Mr. Chandrasekharan is an experienced breast surgeon working in the field for over 15 years. His main areas of interest are oncoplastic breast surgery, sentinel lymph-node biopsy and improving cosmetic outcome post-surgery. His research include chemotherapy and the transformation of ductal carcinoma in-situ to invasive cancer. He is the principal investigator in the region for numerous trials including BORIS chemotherapy trial, DCIS2 trial, the TEAM trial, the NeoExcel trial and REACT trial. He is also one of the clinical coordinators for research at the Helen Rollason Lab at Anglia Ruskin University and Essex University. He sits on a number of regional and national panels including the the National Institute of Health:Interventional Procedures Panel and the PMETB consultant appointment panel.
He trained in surgery at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Yorkshire and breast surgery in Colchester General Hospital, Essex County Hospital and Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford before taking up his Consultant post in Colchester General Hospital. During his training, he also obtained an M.Sc in Clinical Oncology from Birmingham University.
Mr. Chandrasekharan is fully registered with the GMC, and is a member of the British Medical Association and British Association of Surgical Oncology.

Research interests
Mr. Chandrasekharan is one of the Clinical coordinators and Co-researchers for numerous research projects at the Helen Rollason Lab at Anglia Ruskin University. Working in consort with the scientist, his team have set up a unique project involving collecting malignant histological tissue samples and undertaking research using this. Currently they are looking at molecular markers for resistance to primary chemotherapy and blood markers - BORIS in primary chemotherapy. His interests also include identifying biochemical markers to assess the effectiveness of complimentary therapy in cancer.
He is also the clinical coordinator for Research at Essex University where current research projects include identifying a blood biomarker for early stage breast cancer.
