Dr Watkin is the Clinical Lead for Cardiology Services at Good Hope Hospital. He is skilled in all aspects of coronary intervention having worked in several high volume centres. He has broad experience in all aspects of general adult cardiology and holds national accreditation in echocardiography (heart ultrasound scanning). Dr Watkin is also the cardiac lead for renal sympathetic denervation for the treatment of resistant hypertension.

Research interests
Dr Watkin was awarded an MD in 2004 for his research into infective endocarditis. He has published widely on this subject and is a national expert in infective endocarditis treatment and prevention. He is Principal Investigator for several multicentre studies and is a member of the British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy working party on infective endocarditis.
