Professional profile
Mr Sood studied medicine at Guys Hospital Medical School gaining a BSc (Hons) degree before graduating MBBS in 1992. He undertook higher surgical training in Orthopaedics and trauma at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore and its associated hospitals. He was subsequently appointed lecturer to the Professorial Unit and further developed his interest in hip and knee surgery during this post, training in complex and revision joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery and the technique of autologous cartilage transplantation.
He undertook further higher sub-specialty training as a senior clinical fellow in hip and knee surgery both in the UK and in two centres of excellence in North America, where he worked with internationally renowned surgeons. At The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, he was fortunate to work with Dr Dan Berry and at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto he trained under Prof Alan Gross. He gained experience in managing the most complex hip and knee cases. Mr Sood holds an NHS Consultant appointment specialising in Hip and Knee surgery and he runs a high-volume specialist lower limb joint replacement and revision service and arthroscopic knee and hip surgery service. He has a particular interest in rapid recovery after hip and knee replacement surgery.
Mr Sood remains active in clinical research and teaching. He has published and presented numerous papers and continues to present work at national and international meetings. He is a faculty member on a number of post-graduate courses at the RNOH and is an Instructor on a number of hip surgery training courses. Mr Sood has also trained in hand and forefoot surgery, and performs this regularly.
