Professional profile

I am a General, Laparoscopic and Colorectal surgeon. My clinical interests include all aspects of colorectal disease, particularly bowel cancer, haemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, rectal prolapse, faecal incontinence and complex pilonidal sinus disease. I undertake a rapid access colorectal clinic every Monday morning at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital. I perform over 300 colonoscopies/gastroscopies per year. General surgical procedures offered include keyhole surgery for hernias and gallstones (which can be undertaken on a daycase basis). I also routinely perform laparoscopic colorectal surgery (i.e. bowel resections through small incisions for faster recovery); stapled haemorrhoidectomy (known as Procedure for Prolapse and Haemorrhoids - PPH), resulting in less post-operative pain and allowing patients earlier return to work; Limberg (Rhomboid) Flap procedure for complex or unhealed pilonidal sinus disease.

I have a team of doctors consisting of a Specialist Registrar, a Senior House Officer and a pre-registration House Officer, who look after my patients under my direct and close supervision.

All patients under my care who are diagnosed with bowel cancer are discussed in detail at a weekly Multidisciplinary Team Meeting. Here, surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, specialist cancer nurses and other key staff come together to ensure optimal patient care pre and post operatively.
I am the Lead Clinician for Colorectal Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth and Kent & Canterbury Hospitals.
