Professional profile
Suneel Talwar was appointed as the clinical lead for coronary angioplasty and stenting at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in February 2005. He was trained in coronary intervention at the South West Cardiothoracic Centre, Plymouth and at the Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. He also trained at the Regional Cardiac Centre in Trondheim, Norway and specialises in coronary angioplasty through the radial artery in the arm, which allows most patients to leave hospital the same day as they have the procedure. His other interests include rotational atherectomy, laser atherectomy, thrombectomy, intra coronary ultrasound and pressure wire assessment of coronary artery lesions in patients with cardiac sounding chest pain.

Summary of recent publications
I have been studying the molecular forms of Brain Natriuretic Peptide (i.e. N-Terminal proBNP) and Cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1). In this project I have developed an Immunoluminometric assay (ILMA) for NT proBNP and Cardiotrophin-1 and established the normal range for both NT proBNP and CT-1 and examined the hypothesis that NT-proBNP and CT-1 secretion are induced in patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), especially in the group with impaired left ventricular function as determined by echocardiography. Furthermore I have investigated whether NT-proBNP and CT-1 would continue to be elevated post AMI in those patients with abnormal wall stress who may subsequently develop left ventricular dilatation and remodeling. In addition I have investigated plasma levels of NTproBNP and CT-1 in patients with chronic heart failure and have correlated the levels of these peptides to the severity of heart failure.
