Since I moved to Canterbury in 1995 I have overseen a massive development in renal services in Kent that has seen the department become one of the largest Departments of Nephrology outside of the major teaching centres.
My main research interests are in the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease, acute renal failure and clinical nephrology. Research within the department has begun to grow in recent years and the main area of interest currently is in the epidemiology of CKD with particular reference to the unmet need. This has attracted funding from the NKRF - the first time the NKRF has funded epidemiological research. Follow up work has involved development of a screening tool for CKD and current work in progress is to further develop this into an IT based expert system to aid identification and management of CKD in the community.
