I trained as a medical student at Cambridge and Oxford Medical Schools before specialising in Gastroenterology in the renowned units of Oxford and Nottingham. My research has focussed on both bowel and stomach diseases and I was awarded a PhD by Nottingham University in 2003. I authored the British Society of Gastroenterology National Guidelines for the management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I have published many articles in national and international journals including a number of book chapters. I was Clinical Services Director for Acute Medicine at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust until my appointment in 2007 as an honorary Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Keele. I provide a broad range of Gastroenterology services both for the NHS and privately including Consultations, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the advanced technique of Endoscopic Ultrasound. I currently lead the screening programme for patients with a family history of colon cancer having previously been the Lead Clinician for upper gastrointestinal cancer.
