Ian Finlay was one of the first colorectal surgeons to be appointed in Scotland where he developed the clinical service at Glasgow Royal Infirnmary. The unit has been responsible for training many of the surgeons now working in Scotland and further afield. Mr Finlay has written widely on the surgery of colorec tal disease and regularly gives lectures at National and International meetings. His personal results for surgery are regularly audited; his results for the surgery of rectal cancer, rectal prolapse and pouch reconstruction for ulcerative colitis have been published.
He has undertaken a number of leading roles within the profession including; past Executive Officer and Treasurer of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Lead Clinician West of Scotland Managed Network for Colorectal Cancer, Executive Officer and Treasurer British Journal of Surgery, Council of the Association of Surgeons of GB and Ireland, Intercollegiate Examiner in Coloproctology and the Scottish Executive Bowel Cancer Framework Group.
