Personal profile
I have been a Consultant Neurologist at City Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham since 2002. I am an honorary senior lecturer in Neurology at University of Birmingham. I am chair of the regional training committee in Neurology for the West Midlands. I am vice-chair of the UK Specialist Advisory Committee in Neurology. I co-organise a national training course for trainee neurologists in Movement Disorders. I have designed an award winning CDROM "The Clinical Atlas of Parkinson's disease" amongst many publications. My research interests centre on neurogenetics and movement disorders. My PhD (1998) was on "the Genetics of Parkinson's disease and related disorders"
Outside of neurology, I am a human rights activist who has published work on medical ethics and doctors involvement in torture in the War on Terror. I have been interviewed by many major broadcasters from CNN to AlJazeera as a consequence.
In September 2008, I interviewed David Cameron, about his plans for the NHS for the BBC's Panorama.
